squarePg2The news emerged in the same week that another leading ladies fashion store based in City Square, Wallis, would be closing on 1st March, with the loss of a number of part-time and full-time jobs.

The proposed new development will stretch along the Arundel Square façade of City Square from Sully’s as far as – though not including – Hallmark Jewellers.

Spokesperson for agent Douglas Newman Good’s commercial operation Simon Plunkett said he was bound by a confidentiality agreement not to reveal full details of the ongoing negotiations. But he did confirm that DNG was presently ‘focused on improving the fashion mix at City Square’, adding that DNG was hopeful of carrying out the development ‘in the near future’.

The planning application provides for the change of use of an existing first floor office to retail use, with the new first floor level (consisting of 188 sq m in retail space) to be amalgamated with an existing 122 sq m retail unit at ground floor. Overall, the newly amalgamated unit would encompass 310 sq m of retail space over two floors.

The planning application was made in early December by IBI Property Nominees Ltd and a decision is due from Waterford City Council on 5th February.
