Davy-DanielsAn impassioned Councillor Davy Daniels has issued a broadside at Enterprise Minister Batt O’Keeffe for his failure to ease Waterford’s unemployment numbers, while also taking aim at Waterford’s TDs and Senators.
Addressing Monday’s meeting of Waterford City Council, Cllr Daniels said that many small businesses in the city were “hanging on by their fingertips” while those out of work remained in a Leinster House blind spot.
“Many businesses in this city are in serious trouble, and are having difficulty in accessing the finance they need in order to stay afloat and keep people in work,” he said.
“I believe the time is long overdue for us to invite representatives of the financial institutions into City Hall so that we can examine the seriousness of the situation as it stands while hearing what these institutions have to say for themselves.”
Turning his attention to Minister O’Keeffe, Cllr Daniels offered a damning assessment of the Cork TD’s time in his current brief.
“When the Minister spoke at the recent Chamber conference in the Theatre Royal, he said that there would by year’s end, have been 100 different announcements on job creation by the IDA in 2010. I’ve not heard of one single job from all of these announcements being located here in Waterford.”
