CoderDojo Tramore at the RDS

CoderDojo Tramore at the RDS

What a busy month for everyone at CoderDojo Tramore. We had very special guests from Dublin, Ken and his son Ethan Whelan who brought the CoderDojo Drone Tour to Tramore. The kids were treated to displays of flying objects in the Meeting Place and got a chance to operate them through creating their own coding instructions.
Our newest sponsor Dataworks from Six Cross Road Business Park, helped us to provide a bus to the RDS in Dublin where CoderDojo kids from all over Ireland and Europe got together to display and talk about their projects. We got to see some cool robots, fly drones, play virtual reality games and try to crack the code as part of a competition by Intel. Our own entry to the Coolest Projects Awards was by Kyle Treacy with his website “Fun in Tramore”. Kyle’s website suggests many activities available for all kinds of weather. Kyle’s project is coded with HTML and CSS.
We finished the term with Frank Walsh giving a presentation about our trip to the Coolest Projects, with special guest Tammy Contreraz, the International Business Developer from nearForm. We met Tammy at the RDS where she & Kevin Quinn demonstrated the new CoderDojo community platform being developed by nearFrom. After which the kids were treated to a splendid spread of chips and pizza thanks to Dooly’s Tramore and Appache Pizza Tramore.
CoderDojo Tramore has had an amazing year and look forward to next term when we will be working on a weather station for Tramore, many more exciting projects and a trip to Google in Dublin. All of which would not be possible if it was not for our Sponsors, Volunteers, Parents and the Children themselves. Sponsors: Tramore Development Trust, Teva Pharmaceutical, Sunlife, nearForm, Dataworks, Apache Pizza Tramore, Doolys, Ingemit, CalypsoIT. Volunteers: Milan Gajic, Karen McCarthy, Frank Walsh, Keith Byrne, Keith Power, Patricia McAvinue, Patricia Long, Eva Duhig, Robin Whelan, Dominic Bond and Jason Power.
CoderDojo’s new term begins in the 12th September, places are limited. We are always looking for volunteers for various positions, short-term and long term.
