All of Waterford’s 77 primary schools have been awarded funding for minor projects to improve their facilities during the current school year, Minister for Training, Skills and Innovation John Halligan, TD announced this week.
“The Minor Works Grant is worth €5,500 per school plus €18.50 per mainstream pupil and €74 per special needs pupil in Waterford”, Minister Halligan commented. “This means €6,425 for a 50 pupil school and over €11,000 for a 300 pupil school.”
The schools will receive the funds over the coming weeks, which can be spent on improvements to school buildings and grounds, improvement or replacement of mechanical and electrical services, the purchase of standard furniture and physical education equipment, the purchase of floor coverings and window blinds and the purchase of IT-related equipment.
“This funding is badly needed by schools across Waterford and I have no doubt that principals and Boards of Management will put it to good use”, Minister Halligan concluded.
