The WIT Tourism & Leisure building, lit up in gold!

WIT campus was lit in gold in more ways than one over the past week. Apart from the Tourism & Leisure (T&L) Building being bathed in a gold light to raise awareness, one of the highlights of the Light It Up Gold Campaign at WIT was the Golden Moments Afternoon Tea which took place on Tuesday last at the college.
The event was hosted by Ray Cullen (Head of Department), Nuala Gordon (Course Leader of the Diploma in Restaurant Management) and their dedicated students who laid on a superb spread for the students and staff in WIT.
Local families affected by childhood cancer were invited to the event and the children had a party kindly sponsored by Party World, Centra in WIT and the Hot House Bistro restaurant in WIT.
Students from the Waterford College of Further Education were on hand to provide face painting and the nail art for the children.
City & County Mayor, John Cummins addressed the event and spoke about the importance of raising awareness for Childhood Cancer, while GAA stars from Waterford and Kilkenny were also in attendance.
WIT Chaplain Fr David Keating said a prayer for the angels as a tribute to the many children that have lost their lives to cancer.
Dr Suzanne Deniffe, WIT’s Head of Department of Nursing and Healthcare along with her nursing students played a vital role in raising awareness of childhood cancer at the event by imparting their specialist knowledge of patient care and childhood cancer.
Prior to the event, the Students Union organised a ‘Golden Lap’ walk which started at 2:30pm and finished at the T&L building just in time for refreshments at the Afternoon Tea.
