Visiting restrictions remain in place at Medical Wards 4 and 5 of Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH) this week, as hospital authorities continue their attempts to curb suspected cases of the Norovirus (vomiting bug).
Visiting to these wards is prohibited apart from exceptional circumstances, which includes critical care patients and strictly no children are allowed to visit Medical 4 and 5. A WRH spokesperson said the inconvenience was regrettable but necessary.
Cancer Services, Emergency Services and Outpatient Services are continuing as normal and the situation is being kept under daily review.
WRH General Manager Patricia Sullivan has appealed to the general public for co-operation with the visiting restrictions and reiterated how important it is for patients that these infection control measures are respected.
“The vomiting bug is currently in the community and people may unknowingly bring the bug into the hospital when visiting sick relatives or friends,” she said.
