Canary Island tourism held an event in conjunction with Cork Airport in the Waterford owned Imperial Hotel in Cork.

Kevin Cullinane, Marketing Manager Cork Airport spoke of a number of route that they are running from Cork to the Canary islands, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote with Aer Lingus and Ryanair, from the second busiest airport in Ireland.

He stated that there would be more flights this year from Ireland to Lanzarote which is the number one sun destination from Cork, beating mainland Spain and is a year round destination.

A number of speakers from the various islands spoke, stating that the islands had the “best climate in the world”. Christina from Tenerife spoke of the great natural landscape, historic and picturesque villages. Lots of sports activities and a new hobby of star gazing, with the starmus festival with clear skies. They also reckon that they have one of the best carnivals in the world after Rio in Brazil, before Lent.

Walking and hiking is a big activity in this an island with volcanic landscape.
