The Waterford Senior Hurling Team has given immense pleasure in the past decade. Yet again, they have surprised and entertained by snatching a Munster Final place with a last gasp goal against Limerick on Sunday. Last year, they equalized against Cork in similar fashion to force a Munster
final replay. Watching on TV it was high drama. We had planned to travel but the weather looked grim that day. The Waterford fan turnout of 3 to 4,000 was low for a semi final.
While shopping on Saturday we heard some complain that the stand tickets were dearer in Thurles than Croke Park that day at €30. Would cheaper prices have
attracted more? The Munster Final is usually a sell out and, if Tipperary are the opponents, the stands will be full.
Given the great support Waterford fans have offered over the years, would better prices be possible for the final to encourage more to keep following the game and getting away from the TV? As the TV pundits and commentators said, for thrills and spills it is hard to beat Munster hurling. A bigger Waterford crowd must go up for the final to support the Deise team. The venue and the opposition are still undecided.
