If anybody has ever wondered what happens to all the items that are stolen every week in this country, they might find a partial answer in the following.
One evening last week, a Mercedes lorry was stopped by Garda and Revenue officers at Rosslare as it was about to board a ferry for Cherbourg.
A search of the lorry uncovered a hoard of items that Gardaí believed were stolen property.
Among the many varied items were bicycles, power tools, garden machinery and a large collection of beer kegs with a total value of around €70,000.
The lorry and its contents were confiscated and three foreign nationals in their 20s and 30s, all with addresses in this country, were arrested and detained.
