This week we will gather in our thousands throughout the country and many a foreign field to celebrate our favourite Welshman – St Patrick and the arrival of the Spring Equinox, the harbinger of things to come and the ever lengthening of brighter evenings. Though, I remember Padraig Breathnach formerly of Macnas campaigning some years ago for a switch of date for our national festival from the frequently ‘bitter winds of mid March to a sunnier time in June. In other words better parade weather and he has a point given the great preparations that hundreds of groups around the country put into our big day out ar ‘La Fheile Phadraig.
