The Waterford Roses at the Rose of Tralee Gala Ball in the Woodlands Hotel on Saturday night last. The name of the Rose to represent Waterford in the further stages of the pageant will be announced at a reception in the Woodlands on Friday, April 24th.

The Munster Express is a media sponsor of the event and 17 girls will take part in the Waterford final this year. Steve Cronly, national co-ordinator of the Rose of Tralee international festival, praised the Munster Express for its work in promoting the event that has a huge TV audience for the finals in Kerry at the end of August.

Peter Cooney was the local organizer for the event and he put in Trojan work

in the run up to Saturday’s ball at the Woodlands Hotel where staff delivered a great meal on the night. Broadstreet band played to the well attended gathering despite the recession. No interviews were done on the night but will take place on Friday week, 24th April.

The winner from Waterford will enter the Munster section, exclusions from this are Kerry and Cork who get automatic nomination with one other Munster qualifier.

This year, the Munster finalist will be chosen in Port Laoise so all interest will shift to the Midlands after the 24th in Waterford. e next week’s edition of The Munster Express for full photographic coverage of the Gala Ball.
