An elderly Co Waterford couple are being comforted by their family after they were subjected to a horrifying ordeal at their home on Monday night, during which they were tied to chairs, threatened with a hammer and hatchet and robbed.
A gang of three men wearing scarves on their faces and baseball caps entered the house, located on the laneway leading to the Saleens beach at Corballymore, at around 9pm on Monday. One was armed with a hammer and another with a hatchet.
