A young Waterford City woman with ambitions to make a career in the culinary trade has won a major national cookery competition, the prize for which will certainly help set her on her way.
As winner of Chef Factor, Christine Crowley (25) is to undertake a 12 week cookery course at the renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School, starting on January 10. The competition was sponsored by the Cully & Sully Food Company and Christine’s prize is worth €12,000.
Daughter of Pat and Audrey Crowley from Crescent Drive in Hillview and a former Mercy Convent student, Christine resides at Hazelbourne in Cleaboy. She hopes to open a café in Waterford once she has completed the Ballymaloe course.
Along with thousands of other entrants, Christine had to create a dish, get her picture taken with it and then submit that, with details relating to the ingredients and its preparation. All entries were placed on the Chef Factor website for about a month, with an invitation for people to vote for their favourite.
