Minister of State Paudie Coffey has re-iterated his commitment to the delivery of 24/7 cardiac care services at University Hospital Waterford (UHW).
“I’ve said it more than once in recent months, and it’s worth stating again: during the boom years, around 2002 and 2003, we only had cardiac care in our regional hospital for two days a week, something I was very critical of but throughout the worst of the recession, that service has been in place for five days a week,” Minister Coffey told The Munster Express.
“Of course I want to see it open seven days a week but that’s not going to happen until we have additional consultants and an additional cath lab. That lobbying is ongoing, I want to see progress on this, I want to see delivery on this and I will continue to lobby on this critical matter.”
