Tramore Beach - still flying the blue flag

Tramore Beach - still flying the blue flag

Waterford has retained
its four International Blue
Flags. In An Taisce’s 2015
list of beaches which meet
Blue Flag criteria, Waterford
is represented by Clonea,
Counsellors Strand, Dunmore
Strand and Tramore.
Blue Flags signal to visitors
that beaches have achieved
excellence in water quality
standards, set by European
and national regulations.
In total, 81 beaches and
five marinas have been
awarded the International
Blue Flag for 2015 throughout
Ireland by An Taisce.
Green Coast awards have
been given to the Guillamene,
Annestown, Ballyquinn,
Curragh, Goat Island,
Kilfarrasy and Newtown
Cove.
These recognise beaches
for their clean environment,
excellent water quality, and
natural beauty.
However, Green Coast
beaches may not have the
necessary built infrastructure
required to meet the criteria
set for Blue Flag status.
Minister for the Environment
Alan Kelly paid tribute
to the efforts of local authorities,
An Taisce and local
communities in ensuring that
their beaches meet the standards
of excellence required
for a Blue Flag or Green
Coast award.
