Kilmacthomas native and retired Garda Superintendent Pat Flynn has now told the tale of his work on the case in a new book, ‘Catherine And Friends’.
It was a case that shocked the nation: extra-marital affairs, fraud, contract killers and IRA involvement.
The murder of Tom Nevin and the subsequent trial of his wife Catherine bore all the hallmarks of a far fetched Hollywood blockbuster.
The events that took place in South County Wicklow back in March 1996 soon became the main talking point in homes and workplaces throughout the country.
Now, former Garda Superintendent Pat Flynn, originally from Kilmacthomas, has penned a book detailing what it was like to work on the case of the woman the national media dubbed the ‘Black Widow’.
Pat Flynn, who served as the ‘Super’ at Gorey Garda Station from 1989 to 2004, led the investigation into the murder of Tom Nevin, who was gunned down at Jack White’s Inn on March 19th 1996.
His recently published book, ‘Catherine and Friends – Inside the Investigation into Ireland’s Most Notorious Murder’, details all aspects of the case, revealing a fresh perspective into one of the country’s most talked about homicides.
And his first hand account of what it was like to deal with Catherine Nevin, and particularly, what her relationships were like with members of An Garda Síochána, are certain to intrigue many readers.
