With Limerick city and county to be merged into a single local authority come the next local elections, Minister Phil Hogan will surely soon train his eyes on a Waterford merger.
The merging of Limerick’s two local authorities would suggest that a similar merger of Waterford’s City and County Councils will come about sooner rather than later.
And one of those Councillors who could well be affected by such a change has conceded that any such radical overhaul of local government would have to be considered in the current climate.
We’ve too many councillors anyway. Great news!
It is about time this useless divide is abolished; it hurts both city and county; and plays into the hands of our competitors for national resources . One Waterford!
