The name of the 64 year old woman who died after being struck by a car as she was walking along a section of the Waterford-Dungarvan N25 at lunchtime on Saturday last has been released as Maura Walsh from Dunmoon, Kilwatermoy near Tallow.
Ms Walsh, who was not married, was described as ‘a pillar of the local community’ and as ‘a lovely person with a great devotion to Our Lady’. She was known to many through the Waterford and Lismore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes.
It is understood that Ms Walsh had just got off a bus and was heading in the direction of Dungarvan at the time of the accident.
Ms Walsh was brought to Waterford Regional Hospital by Ambulance to be treated for her injuries but died shortly afterwards.
Her remains were brought to The Holy Cross Church in Kilwatermoy yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon for Requiem Mass and she was buried afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
The deceased is survived by her sister, Anne Houlihan, her brothers James, Patrick and Tom as well as many nephews, nieces and a wide circle of friends.
