Richard Murray

Richard Murray, member of The Higgins Academy of Irish Dancing and son of Jimmy and Julie Murray, Old Waterford Road, Tramore, returned triumphant from Belfast this week having won his second World Title in a row!

Richard also achieved a hat trick in February by winning his third consecutive All Ireland Title to add to winner of five Munster Titles and both British titles. He also achieved 2nd place in the American Nationals and in July of this year hopes to compete once again in America to win this title. The event is being held in Nashville Tennessee.

Richard has great stage presence and when he gets out to perform, you can see him do it with a twinkle in his eye. He has already got involved in a local musical pageant, the Emigrants Tale, which runs during the tourist season in Dooleys Hotel on the Quay in Waterford, while he also plays the banjo.

While entertainment may be his destiny, he is still a diligent student at Tramore CBS School where he is in First Year.

Richard’s teachers Phil, Michelle and Nina are so proud of him. “Lots of hard work and dedication goes in to choreographing and perfecting the intricate footwork needed at this level of competition. Richard approaches this with enthusiasm and vigour and the rewards are not only the magnificent trophies but the development of strong character and confidence in public performance”, they said.

Richard also enjoys performing with his fellow classmates from the academy who present a very successful Show Troupe and perform at various events and social occasions. The Higgins Academy is based at Ballygunner Scout Hall. Please contact Michelle on 087-2230176 or Nina on for more information.
