A proposal has been made to extend public lighting throughout the People’s Park, following a number of violent muggings in recent weeks.
Cllr Davy Daniels (Ind) recalled that when the Park was refurbished back in 2001/02, it had been planned to extend the lighting on a phased basis but this did not go ahead. He said recent violence in the Park merited it being better lit and urged the Council to consider the proposal.
Meanwhile, responding to a query from Cllr Eddie Mulligan (FF) , Senior Roads Engineer Niall O’Kane said there were no plans to introduce on-street parking charges in Dunmore East during the summer months.
However he confirmed that the Council had been approached with a view to policing illegal parking in the town, such as on double yellow lines and that is something the local authority will look at next summer.
