Waterford is the most affordable major tourism destination in the country, according to the latest data from Hotels.com.
Dublin, unsurprisingly, topped the list for hotel costs, averaging €129 per night in 2015. The website’s annual Hotel Price Index put the average cost of a bed in Waterford at €84 last year – an increase of 6% on the 2014 figures.
The Waterford increase is less than half the national average. Nationally, Irish hotel room prices rose 15% in 2015 to an average of €118 per night.
This is the fifth year in a row that the Index has recorded an increase in Irish hotel prices.
