On Saturday last in Tullamore athletes from Waterford schools were in fine form at the All Ireland Schools Track and Field finals. They won several titles and set three new records and also won many silver and bronze medals. The records were set by Thomas Houlihan St Augustine’s Senior Pole Vault, with 4.51 metres Kate Veale do Intermediate 2000 metres Walk in 8minutes and 26.20 seconds and Ciara Giles Doran Mercy Inter 200 metres in 24.56 seconds and she also won the 80 metres hurdles. The other winners were Zoe Scanlon Árd Scoil na nDéise Senior Discus, and at Intermediate level Jade Power Mercy Discus, Megan Kiely Ursuline 300 metres Hurdles, Laurence Houlihan St Augustine’s Pole Vault Silver medals were won by Clare Collins Árd Scoil Senior High Jump , James Greene Comeragh C.C, Senior 400 metres, Thomas Barr De La Salle Senior 400 metres Hurdles, Lisa Houlihan St Augustine’s Senior Pole Vault, Conor Kavanagh St Augustine’s and Olivia Phelan do both in Junior Pole Vaults. Bronze medals went to Zoe Scanlon Árd Scoil Senior Shot Putt, Nicola Power Abbey C.C. Senior Long Jump, Kate Hickey St Declan’s Inter Discus, Megan Kiely Ursuline Inter 300 metres, her brother Ben Kiely Tramore C.B.S. 400 metres hurdles, Liz Devine Inter Triple jump Shane Kenneally Junior Shot Putt both St Augustine’s, Ciara Scanlon Árd Scoil Junior Hammer.
