SHC RD5 Abbeyside v Dungarvan Abbeyside 2-11

Dungarvan 0-16

Last year’s beaten finalists Dungarvan were sent crashing out of the SHC by neighbours and  great rivals Abbeyside who had one point to spare at the end of a dramatic contest.

The Village side got off to a great start when the impressive Patrick Hurney doubled on a  dropping ball three minutes into the game.

Patrick Curran levelled matters seconds later when he put over a free, but points from  Richie Foley and Mark O’Gorman ensured that the Village Men would end the first quarter of  the game with a 0-3 to 0-1 advantage.

Two points each from the Curran brothers Patrick and Cormac and one from inter county  star Jamie Nagle gave the Old Boro a deserved 0-6 to 0-3 lead after 23minutes.

Patrick Hurney pulled a point back for Abbeyside to leave two between the sides, but some poor shooting in front of goal was to cost Abbeyside as they shot 10 first half wides against Dungarvan’s four.

But the Old Boro finished strongly as a hat-trick of Patrick Curran points gave them a 0-9 to 0-4 lead at the break.

Dungarvan resumed the action with equal vigour as Cathal and Colm Curran hit points, ensuring that all four brothers on the field for Dungarvan had their names on the score sheet.

Abbeyside however struck back as Patrick Hurney hit a delightful point on 32 minutes and moments later Mark Gorman landed a free for the village side.

But Patrick Curran and Gavin Crotty soon replied for Dungarvan, meaning that five of their six starting forwards were by then on the scoresheet.

But Abbeyside showed what they are made of as Mark Gorman free went between the uprights.
