On Sunday last in St Augustine’s College Grounds, Abbeyside, hundreds of athletes from all over Munster competed in the Munster Cross-Country Championship fixture in cold but dry weather conditions and once again Waterford athletes figured very prominently.

Rory Moloney, West Waterford AC won the Under-23 title and also took the bronze medal in the Novice event and in the Under-23 Waterford took the County title and West Waterford the club award. In the Novice Championship Waterford were second County and West Waterford second club.

Elma Nugent was third overall in the Under-23 race and in the Novice women’s West Waterford were second club.

In the juvenile races three athletes from Waterford clubs won silver individual medals, namely, Kate Veale u16, Sinead Flynn u12 (both West Waterford) and Tadg Brennan, Ferry bank u12. Kate McGrath, West Waterford was third u12 and her clubmates Jerome Power, 6th u10 and Sean Curran, 10th u14 both did well, as did Rena Behan, KCK, who was 6th u10.

In the inter club team sections West Waterford were second in the girls u12 and girls u16 and 3rd in the boys u18. Ferrybank were second in the boys u12 and 3rd in the boys u10 and girls u14, and Waterford AC also got among the medals with their girls u18 team second.

In the Inter-County section Waterford were 2nd in the girls and boys u12 and 3rd in the boys u18.
