Ballinacourty advanced to the semi-finals of the county senior football championship with a less than convincing victory over Gaultier in Kill last Saturday evening. Ballinacourty came into this game as overwhelming favourites but they had to overcome an early scare before they were able to account for the Barony men.

Ballinacourty created an excellent chance of a goal after three minutes when Patrick Hurney was put through. His shot beat James Cusack in the Gaultier goal but rebounded off the inside of the post and was cleared. Ballinacourty took the lead following their very next attack when Mark Ferncombe scored after a good team move.

Ballinacourty looked anxious to put a goal on the scoreboard and created another chance of creating a major after six minutes. This resulted in an almighty scramble in front of the Gaultier goal when at least three Ballinacourty men had a chance to put the ball in the net.
