Everyone knows the saying that goals win games and it was never more evident then here. The side in red and white were outscored by eight scores to seven in the first half at Fraher Field on Sunday last, but because two of Stradbally’s raised green flags they held a three-point lead at the break.
Ardmore opened the scoring in the game inside the opening 30 seconds thanks to a Clinton Hennessy point from play, and when Kenny Murphy pointed 90 seconds later the writing looked to be on the wall for a Stradbally side that fielded without both Michael Walsh and Ger Power.
Shane Ahearne kept the Covesiders in touch when he pointed three minutes in. Clinton Hennessy and Niall Curran followed up with points for their respective sides in the seventh and ninth minutes, before the first goal of the game arrived on 11, Robert Ahearne finishing off a movement aided by some sloppy Ardmore defending.
