The centrepiece of the Port Lairge hurling year takes place this Sunday afternoon in Walsh Park when neighbours Ballygunner and Passage go head to head to see who will be crowned 2013 County senior hurling champions.
This decider has the makings of a most interesting contest and will surely attract a large gathering from the Ballygunner, Passage and Dunmore heartlands, as well as right across the county as a whole.
Sunday’s finalists have most contrasting histories when it comes to this stage of the Championship.
Passage have appeared in just three finals, losing all three, against Lismore (0-8 to 0-7 in 1993) and going down 2-12 to 1-11 to Mount Sion a year later.
Their most recent appearance in a SHC decider came in 1997 when they lost to this Sunday’s opponents – Ballygunner by 2-17 to 1-14.
