Saturday afternoon’s Senior Ladies County Senior Football between Ballymacarbry and Comeragh Rangers has had to be abandoned after a player was injured and an ambulance called to take her to hospital.
Comeragh Rangers Ciara Dunphy took ill and collapsed on the field of play. The incident, which took place after 49 minutes of play necessitated a lengthy stoppage of over 30 minutes while nursing and paramedic personnel dealt with the situation and as a result referee Timmy Organ called the match to a halt.
Prior to this, the reigning champions were looking good for a 34th consecutive title. They were four points to the good following points from Sinead Ryan (3) and Aileen Wall by the quarter of an hour mark at which time Comeragh Rangers opened their account through Ruth Kirwan from a free.
The game however could have had a different look to it at this stage as Comeragh Rangers hit the crossbar with a Aoife Murray effort on nine minutes and while Michelle Ryan also hit the crossbar for Ballymacarbry, Sinead Ryan from the rebound gave her side a three-point lead.
The first goal of the game came on 16 minutes, seconds after Sinead Ryan restored a four point lead for her side, as Aileen Wall and Michelle Ryan linked up well for the latter to bury the ball in the Comeragh Rangers net.
Ballymacarbry could have added further goals on 17 and 21 minutes but efforts from Linda Wall and Michelle Ryan again came crashing off the bar.
Michelle Ryan would hit the side netting on 27 minutes as her side laid siege on the Comeragh Rangers goal and three minutes later Linda Wall hit the upright. In added time at the end of the first half Michelle Ryan again scored for Ballymacarbry to give her side a 1-6 to 0-1 lead at the turn around.
Eibhlis Cooney and Sinead Ryan hit points within a minute of the restart. Sinead Ryan hit another point on 34 minutes either side of which Eibhlin Power and Aoife Dunne hit points for Comeragh Rangers.
Linda Wall hit another point for Ballymacarbry on 39 minutes and on the three quarters of an hour mark Sinead Ryan twisted and turned in front of the Comeragh Rangers goal to hit her sides second goal of the game.
However within a minute of this, the game was brought to a premature finish. The match will be replayed next Sunday at 11.30am.
