A man was discovered to be driving while disqualified after being stopped for having no insurance in Waterford.
Edgars Leimanis (39) of 58 Penrose Court, Anne Street, Waterford, pleaded guilty to driving without insurance, contrary to Section 56 (1) and (3) of the Road Traffic Act, after he was stopped by Gardaí on the Old Kilmeaden Road, Waterford, on 16 June this year.
After the accused was stopped by Gardaí and failed to produce his licence and insurance, it was subsequently discovered that he was driving while serving out a previous disqualification for drink driving, which was issued to him in January 2024.
Acting for the defendant, solicitor Ken Cunningham said that his client “took a chance” but was “fully cooperative” with Gardaí after being stopped. He stated that he has since disposed of this vehicle so “there should be no further problem” with driving while disqualified in the future.
Judge Cheatle stated that he will leave the driving disqualification at two years.
