Gardai have launched a new nationwide road safety initiative to highlight the devastating effects of road collisions.
The Lifesaver Project is a hard-hitting and realistic road safety educational presentation which is delivered by members of An Garda Siochana. It is a two-hour long interactive programme with video inserts that tell the personal stories of victims of road traffic collisions and their families. The presentation can be delivered in schools, colleges and businesses.
A Garda spokesperson said: “The programme delivers a strong road safety message that everyone needs to hear, and helps to address the current rise in deaths and serious injury collisions on our roads.” According to data from Gardai, a total of 165 people have been killed in road traffic incidents so far in 2025. This includes 65 drivers, 18 passengers, 38 pedestrians, 30 motorcyclists, 2 e-scooter riders and 14 cyclists.
The Lifesaver Project is being rolled out nationwide, with Gardai from across the country being trained to deliver the presentation.
