A Waterford judge has accepted jurisdiction in the case of a man accused of possessing child sexual abuse material.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Judge Kevin Staunton at an in-camera sitting of Waterford District Court this month. He is charged with possession of hundreds of images of child sexual abuse, exposure, and child anime porn.
The court was told on a date in summer 2023, Gardaí executed a search warrant on the accused’s house, and seized two phones. It was outlined that a subsequent investigation allegedly discovered images of child sexual abuse, exposure and anime porn on the devices.
Judge Staunton decided to accept jurisdiction in the case, which means that it will be heard at the District Court.
The accused was then remanded on continuing bail until May 2026, when the matter will be mentioned again.
