Waterford City and County Council provided councilors with a full timeline of the Jute Factory Fire ahead of the Plenary meeting for May.
Here is how events transpired:
Saturday, May 9
- 6.39pm: First 999/122 call received by Munster Regional Communications Centre for a commercial fire in the Tycor area
- 6.45pm: Waterford Fire Services arrive at the scene of the fire
- 8.55pm: Communications department notified and advise public to avoid area and shut windows and doors
- 10.30pm: Management team/emergency coordination meeting convened
Sunday, May 10
- 3.30am: Fire brought under control
- 9.15am: Local Authority, HSE Public Health Consultant, and Environmental/Asbestos consultant conveyed
- 10.00am: Mayor visits site to meet emergency services, business owners and residents
- 2.00pm: Asbestos monitoring commences and fire service dampen roads footpaths and driveways
- 9.00pm: Inter-agency meeting conveyed
- 9.40pm: Re-ignition of fire attended by fire service
Monday, May 11
- 7.00am specialised cleaning operation commences
From this point there was significant public engagement with Local Authority and Government representatives across all media channels. On Tuesday, May 12 Minister for Enterprise Peter Burke, along with Minister of State John Cummins, met with the Council and business owners from the Tycor Business Centre.
