They say that a New Year is a good time for a new start and, for us in Ireland, that would be very desirable if possible but with the IMF, having already inspected our books and the European Central Bank giving us hefty and expensive loans, we really do need some good fortune to get us going.
This could begin with a new Government in the Spring and then we could look at new governments to lend to us. In Britain, last week, the Labour government was blamed for only charging Lloyds and RBS banks 3 per cent in their rescue packages, almost 3 per cent less than we are being charged. Iceland also got a great package, after they devalued their currency.
