A fundraising group set up to assist a County Waterford mother of four who diagnosed with cancer in April is hoping to enter the Guinness Book of World Records in Carrick-on-Suir on Saturday next.
The Carmel Nolan Burns Cancer Support Fund Committee is appealling to groups and organisations in Carrick-on-Suir to ‘link’ both of the town’s bridges – the Dillon Bridge and the ‘Old’ Bridge, via a ‘human chain’ at 2pm.
When linked, the intention is for all those holding hands to participate in a five-minute ‘Thumb War’, which will involve all present stating “1,2,3,4, I Declare A Thumb War”. The current world record for a ‘mass’ Thumb War stands at 957.
Committee members and Stewards will be available on Saturday next to explain the technique to everyone wishing to take part, and all those willing to support ther event have been asked to contibute €2, which will go directly in the Support Fund.
