Waterford County Council is facing a serious cash shortage, government records reveal.
The unpublished reports show that Waterford County Council is classified as “vulnerable” because of its high dependency on government funding.
The documentation, obtained by the Irish Times through a Freedom of Information request, reveals that Waterford County Council is vulnerable because of its low rates base, as it does not have a sufficiently strong revenue stream to compensate for the government funding decrease.
The council is experiencing major challenges this year in collecting sufficient income from rates and is therefore facing difficulties in paying for vital services such as roads, water and housing.
