With the clock ticking towards the end of the local soccer season, perhaps the time is right to warn those clubs who are chasing cup glory to be wary, especially if they have already won their various league grades.

Three weeks ago St Pauls went into the Division 4 Final in a confident frame of mind against Waterford Crystal as they had already secured the league crown. Alas, they had to bend the knee as Crystal ran out winners after an exciting contest.

A week later Waterford Crystal, the Youth League champions, went to Ozier Park to play the team they’d pipped to win the title, Bohemians. Following a superb game, which was decided by a penalty shoot-out, Bohs lifted the cup.

On Wednesday last Park Rangers became the third club to leave Ozier Park empty-handed after losing in extra time to Seaview Celtic. The Faithlegg outfit had won the league two weeks previously, but the club from Annestown put an end to their double dreams.

The Premier Ardagh Cup and the Marquis Cup (Division 3) and the Sheridan Cup (Division 1) finals have yet to be played so take heed if your club is still chasing a double!
