It seems such a long way from Croke Park next September but Waterford’s quest for honours in 2011 begins this weekend when they take on CIT in the Waterford Crystal Cup.

Twelve months ago, Waterford were successful in this competition which gave them the impetus to win a memorable Munster title last July.

The team that Davy Fitzgerald sends out this weekend is likely to be experimental in its make up with several younger players expected to make their competitive debuts for the Deise.

In the goalkeeping area, Waterford is blessed with three players who would walk into almost any side in the country.

With Adrian Power and Stephen O’Keeffe not eligible for this competition, Clinton Hennessy will start this weekend.

There is a whole raft of players in contention for places in defence, although once again Fitzgerald’s options are severely limited by ineligibility of several players due to involvement with college teams.
