Hibernians 2 Edenderry 2

(AET; Hibernians won 3-2 on penalties)

No joy for the Villa at Under 13 level but it was a different story for Hibernians in Mitchel Kennedy Park as they defeated Edenderry despite the fact that they had to come from behind to do so.

Martin O’Neill put Hibs in front following a great cross from Robbie Finn after 49 minutes but then Edenderry scored two quick goals to turn the game on its head. Shane Forde equalised on 61 minutes, finishing off good work by Martin McNamme and shortly afterwards Oran Farrell finished off a cross from Aaron Leonard to give the visitors the lead.

It looked all over for the Waterford side but then with one minute to go Michael King scored following neat work between Shane Hayes and Martin O’Neill.

Extra-time did not produce any more goals so it was into a penalty shoot-out. When Niall O’Sullivan missed the first spot kick for Hibs it looked bleak once again for the home side but goalkeeper Ritchie Roche proved to be a true hero by saving two penalties brilliantly.

Michael King, Robbie Finn and Shane Hayes made no mistake for the Kennedy Park outfit and as a result they move proudly into the next round.

A very good shift indeed by a very talented and hard working Hibernians team. They will now play at home to St Michael’s in the quarter-finals and if they win that game home advantage will again be in their favour, possibly against Home Farm.
