On Sunday last in Charleville, Co Cork athletes from Waterford clubs had a very good set of results at the Munster Cross Country Championships.

In the men’s Intermediate Paddy Hogan, Ferrybank was back in top form as he took the gold medal despite encountering difficulties during the race. First he lost one of his shoes and stopped to take the other one off and then on the slippery surface his stocking hindered him and he again stopped to take them off but he still finished strongly to take the title. Behind him in fourth place was his clubmate Paddy Flynn and in the women’s Intermediate race Elma Nugent, West Waterford was 6th overall.

At juvenile level the best individual performer was Kate Veale, West Waterford, who came close-up second in the u17 grade.

Tadg Brennan, Ferrybank and Sinead Flynn, West Waterford both had third placings under13, while Shane Maher, Ferrybank was 4th under-19. Damon Crowley Tramore was fifth under-15, as was Rena Behan, KCK at under 11. Aoife Hamilton, West Waterford (u13) and Gary Cantwell, KCK (u19) were both 6th, Krista Meade, Ferrybank and Bronagh Condon, West Waterford were 8th and 9th u13 respectively.

West Waterford had two inter-club team victories with their u13 and u17 girls squads, and they also were second in the Boys u9 and Girls u19, and 3rd in the Boys u15 – so a very good day for them.
