Johnville followed up their previous week’s victory against Ferrybank with another excellent win, this time 1-0 away to a Villa side who have been dragged right into the relegation area.
The only goal of this game played in Connors Park on Friday night arrived after 76 minutes when Gavin Phelan crossed from the right and Gavin McLawrence headed powerfully to the net from 15 yards.
This was his fourth goal of the current campaign and it could be the most vital off all because Johnville have now gone into second place on the league table, their highest position for many years.
The Villa did enjoy the majority of the play during the first half but Danny Walsh missed two good chances for the home side. The Villa must now play Carrick United and Tramore and they will have to improve to get points from those games because right now they are on the crest of a slump.
