Southend United 2; Bohemians 1

Southend went into this game with just one point to their name and after falling behind just before half-time it looked as if another day of doom and gloom was on the cards for them. But cometh the hour cometh the man – or should that be cometh the boy because Paddy Barrett scored two second-half goals to breathe life back into their fight against relegation.
Three penalties were awarded in this extraordinary game. Bohs got the first spot kick after 31 minutes but David Kennedy blazed the ball over the crossbar. The red and blacks were awarded a second penalty just before the break and this time David Kennedy made no mistake from the spot.
Paddy Barrett equalised for Southend on 56 minutes. The teenager was taken down inside the area by Stephen McLawrence on 62 minutes and took the penalty himself, burying the ball in the back of the net. It could prove to be a vital goal come the end of the season.
