Two teams with no real designs on winning the Waterford Premier League title served up one of the best games of the season in Connors Park last Wednesday night. The only consistent thing about these two sides so far this term has been their inconsistency but on a bitterly cold night the hardy folk who turned up to watch had the cockles of their hearts warmed.
Paul Omotoso, who normally lines out in the middle of the park for Villa, grabbed most of the headlines. Playing as an out and out striker, the former Waterford United player’s goal secured a valuable point but that is only half the story regarding this talented footballer. In the first period he somehow spurned a golden opportunity from three yards, and later missed a penalty – a bit like Louis Saha elsewhere the same evening.
Hibernians will be a little disappointed not to have taken the spoils because they squandered a great chance to score when leading one-nil. However, on the overall balance of play a draw was a fair result.
