It was a great night in the Theatre Royal when Frankie Gavin and his newish Dé Dannan brought a swirl and a fanfare to close the Harvest Festival. As a man from Bray said – “there’s always something going on in Waterford.” Loyal fans turned out for Frankie and he did not disappoint. Wild Irishmen set the pace and a quick tribute to the Waterford Flanagan brothers before Michelle Lally impressed with If You Love Me and Eric Cunningham charmed on the flute for Sweet Sixteen.

Gavin has that intuitive way of finding the tune in whatever style of music he explores and a slow air version of Boolavogue was winning and wonderful. A Bothy Band set was memorable before Lally wowed the audience with a 1911 hit from the show as she sang Sweet Little Alice Blue Gown.
