When historians study our local newspapers in years to come, they will be presented with a perfect illustration of the scourge which is currently devastating our communities.
Throughout the past year there has hardly been any edition of The Munster Express which hasn’t contained local notes wishing the best to young people preparing to leave their homeland in search of work further afield.
In fact, a quick search through the ‘Townlands’ section of this week’s newspaper will surely present more references to young people departing our localities.
Every weekend there are events taking place around the region to send people on their way and almost every day we hear requests on local radio stations wishing ‘bon voyage’ to friends, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters.
