Councillor Seamus Ryan in the City and Councillor Ciara Conway in Dungarvan, have announced their intention to seek their party’s nomination to fight the Dail by-election in Waterford should the government decide to hold an election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation, through ill health, of Fianna Fail’s Martin Cullen. The party is also seriously considering fielding a second candidate with Brian O’Shea TD in the next general election.

Announcing his candidacy, the City’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Ryan, said the by-election, whenever it was held, would give voters an opportunity to ‘break the mould once and for all’ and return a second Labour Party TD to the Dail.

“This is achievable and, if selected as the Labour Party candidate, I am committed to embarking on a campaign that will be all inclusive. I want to reach out to those who are not involved in politics and who may have never campaigned in an election and to ask them to come on board and help us to change the political scene in Waterford.”
