Carrick United’s love affair with the FAI Junior Cup is over for this season at least. They came up against a team from Wexford who were unbeaten all season in their domestic league, and when they gave their hosts a three-goal lead before half-time they really gave themselves a mountain to climb.
That task, despite a super comeback in the second half, proved too much for the Waterford League champions. Champions die hard, and Carrick proved that fact in this game, but alas their dream is over for this season in this competition.
