Johnville got their league campaign up and running in fine style on Thursday last against Park Rangers. The scoreline may have flattered the home side somewhat because the youngsters from the Faithlegg area did have chances to score, especially in the first half, but they came up against a goalkeeper who was in brilliant form.
John Frampton guarded the Johnville net and he is a player who we will hear a lot about during the coming months. Having said that the visitors could have no complaints about losing the contest, but they will win more games than they will lose because they wont have to face a team as strong as Johnville during the remainder of the season. Powerful up front and busy in the middle of the park, the St John’s Park outfit will take some beating in this league.
Park Rangers got off to the worst possible start by conceding a goal inside the first minute. Jack Flavin played a long ball over the Rangers defence from the middle of the park and when Michael McDonagh made contact he drilled a shot past the stranded Devon O’Sullivan from just inside the penalty area.
The visiting goalkeeper had to be at his best 4 minutes later. He had to dive full length to prevent McDonagh from scoring his second after good work by Shane Wyse.
Park Rangers created an excellent move after eight minutes. Stephen Lynch split the Johnville defence and that pass gave Cieran Joyce an opportunity to shoot at goal but John Frampton produced a very good save.
The visitors fell further behind on 14 minutes, and again it was a sweeping move which led to the goal. Two players were involved before Conor Rochford placed the ball into the path of Johnny Mekumba and the tall Johnville striker gave Devon O’Sullivan no chance with a crisp, low shot.
Rangers almost pulled a goal back six minutes later when Liam Jordan crossed low to the near post where Niall Walsh was waiting but again John Frampton was well up to the task posed by the Faithlegg side.
