On Sunday last at the Aviva UK Indoor Championships and European trials in Sheffield, Kelly Proper (pictured) of Ferrybank AC won the Long Jump title for the third successive year with a leap of 6.35 metres, which came with her second round jump.
The second-placed athlete Dominique Blaise from France jumped 6.25m. Kelly has one more chance next week at the Irish Championships to achieve a qualifying distance for the European Championships (6.50m) and she is capable of jumping this far if in the right frame of mind and form. Also in Sheffield, Niamh Whelan made it through to two finals, finishing fourth in both.
