It may seem odd that Ken McGrath decided to bow out in the month of March but when asked what prompted his sudden retirement last week he admitted it was coming for a while.
“To be honest it was on my mind for the last year or so. I gave training a fair go this year but to be honest I just felt that I was a mile off it. I didn’t want to do that to myself after playing for so long and playing fairly consistently for so long. I just think my time has passed for county hurling and I’ll pass it over to the young lads now and let them have a go at it.”
