Last year’s beaten county senior hurling finalists Lismore eased there way in the semi finals yet again thanks to a five-point win over neighbours Ballyduff Upper at Fraher Field on Sunday last.
Right from the off, the Shanahan brothers were in top form and it was Maurice and Dan who combined to register the first score of the game.
Ballyduff Upper’s response was rapid and decisive with bothers Michael and Stephen Molumphy linking up on three minutes, with Michael pinging the ball into the net after just three minutes.
Over the next 10 minutes, Dan and Maurice Shanahan as well as Padraig Prendergast raised white flags for Lismore.
Meanwhile Brendan Hannon hit a quartet of points for Ballyduff Upper who held a 1-4 to 0-5 lead after 13 minutes.
Ballyduff were unlucky not to have been further in front by this stage after Shane Kearney hit the side netting from close range seven minutes into the game.
Lismore took the lead on 14 minutes, when Maurice Shanahan made his way towards the Ballyduff Upper goal and was pulled down by the advancing Adrian Power.
The large crowd waited to see what the decision of the referee would be who awarded a 20-metre free just outside the ark, but following dissent, the ball was moved directly in front of goal.
Maurice Shanahan looked in the direction of the Lismore selectors before taking the free and once he saw Tomás Mulcahy’ s signal to go for goal, he went for it.
